Iran bans import of Saudi goods

Xinhua, January 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iran decided on Thursday to ban Saudi Arabian goods into the country, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The Iranian government approved the ban over all types of goods produced by Saudi Arabia, according to the report.

The decision came amid rapidly worsening relations between the two countries.

Riyadh severed diplomatic relations with Tehran on Monday, one day after angry mobs stormed and set ablaze the Saudi embassy and consulate to protest the execution of prominent Shiite cleric Nimr at al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has also stopped all air traffic with Iran and placed a ban on citizens travelling there.

Iran exports to Saudi Arabia include iron rods, shoes, pistachios, saffron and cement, and imports polyethylene products, beverages, oil, textile material and glue from the Arab country. Endite
