Xinhua, January 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police in northern Paris shot dead a man armed with knife trying to enter the police station in the French capital 18th district, according to local media.

Not identified yet, the man would have shouted "Allahou Akbar" (God is Great), and wanted to attack policemen before being shot dead by one of the servicemen at about midday local time (1100 GMT), news channel BFMTV said.

The presumed attacker was wearing a sort of belt but it was not confirmed yet if it was an explosive one, BFMTV added.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve had scheduled to visit the shooting site where a security perimeter was set up.

The incident came at the first anniversary of the Jan 7-9 attacks which left 17 victims including three policemen. Enditem.
