Iceland sees increase of foreign visitor overnight stays in Nov. 2015

Iceland saw a year-on-year increase of 36 percent in the number of foreigners who stayed overnight in hotels in November 2015, official figures showed on Thursday.

According to statistics issued by Statistics Iceland, the number of people who paid for accommodations in Icelandic hotels rose to 203,600 in November 2015, a 28 percent increase compared with November 2014.

Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 88 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in November 2015, up 36 percent compared with the figure in November 2014. The number of Icelandic citizens staying overnight in hotels decreased 7 percent over the same period.

Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in November 2015 were mostly residents from Britain, the United States and Germany.

In the last 12 months, from December 2014 until November 2015, number of overnight stays in hotels were 2,763,400, which is an increase of around 21 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Enditem
