Swedes sweep long-distance freestyle ski races at FIS China Tour

Xinhua, January 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Swedish skiers Johansson Lukas and Andersson Terese won the men's and women's long-distance freestyle skiing respectively on Wednesday at the International Ski Federation (FIS) China Tour in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The 20-year-old Lukas clocked 13 minutes 56.5 seconds to grab the title in the men's 5.7-kilometer race.

"I had hurt my knees last season and thought of giving up this race," he said. "Now I finished first, which was amazing."

Czech Maka Daniel and American Koos Tori took silver and bronze respectively.

In the women's 3.8-kilometer race, Terese came first in a time of 10 minutes 10.76 seconds.

"I enjoyed the freezing weather here but others may have been struggling," Terese said. "A bad start today didn't hinder me as I skied faster and faster while several others fell down during their second lap."

Sweden's Svensson Lisa K finished second and U.S. skier Brooks Holly third after two laps of the women's race.

Chinese Chen Shuang, set to compete in the upcoming Chinese Winter Games, ranked fourth.

Seventy skiers from China, the United States, Sweden, Norway and other countries and regions participated in the long-distance freestyle skiing. Endi
