A strong earthquake hit India's Manipur state early Monday and no casualty or damage has been reported though it was felt across northeast and east India as well as some neighboring countries, officials said.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences' National Seismology division said the earthquake was measured at 6.7 on the Richter with its epicenter in Manipur's Tamenglong district bordering Myanmar.

The tremor lasted for one minute and local TV footage showed people rushing out of their houses.

The quake took place at 04:35 a.m. local time (23:05 GMT) at a depth of 17 km below the ground.

India's northeast is considered the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world. Enditem
