2nd LD Writethru: Strong earthquake hits NE India, no casualties reported yet

A high-intensity earthquake early Monday hit northeast India, with its epicenter in the state of Manipur, the Ministry of Earth Sciences said. So far there are no reports of casualties or damage.
The quake took place at 04:35 a.m.(23:05 GMT) at a depth of 17 km below the ground and the epicenter is located at Tamenglong district of Manipur, said the ministry.
The tremor was felt in the northeast and eastern part of the country.
Local TV channel Times Now said the quake was at 6.8 degrees on the Richter scale and its epicenter was 33 km from Imphal, the state capital of Manipur. Endit
