Moderate intensity quake jolts Indian-controlled Kashmir

A moderate intensity earthquake hit Indian-controlled Kashmir on Saturday, said meteorological officials.

"The magnitude of the tremor was 5.8 on the Richter scale with epicentre in the Hindu Khush mountain range of Afghanistan. Depth of the shock was 170 km inside the Earth," the Indo-Asian News Service quoted Sonam Lotus, director of the Meteorological department in Srinagar as saying.

The earthquake jolted the Kashmir Valley. People ran out of their offices and houses, according to the report.

No casualties or property damages have been reported so far. Endit
