Construction of China-funded building for Cambodian Senate begins

Xinhua, December 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Senate President Say Chhum and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo on Thursday broke ground for a building of the Cambodian Senate.

The three-floor building, estimated to cost about 22 million yuan (3.5 million U.S. dollars), will cover an area of 1,500 square metres. It will be constructed by the Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Group in the period of 14 months.

Say Chhum expressed sincere and heartfelt thanks to the Chinese government for providing aid for the project, saying that it timely responded to the Senate's need.

"The Cambodian Senate highly values excellent friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Cambodia and China," he said. "The ground-breaking ceremony for the building today is a new testament to the excellent ties and cooperation between our two countries."

He said China is a good friend, brother, neighbor, and partner of Cambodia.

"Assistance and all-round cooperation have been providing fruitful results to the development of Cambodia and the improvement of Cambodian people's livelihoods," he said.

Ambassador Bu expressed her belief that the building will provide convenience to the Cambodian Senate's leaders in their daily work.

"As a good and true friend of Cambodia, China always pays high attention to developing relations with Cambodia and sees Cambodia as a key strategic partner," she said.

It is the 9th building that China has constructed for the Senate.

At the ceremony, Bu also donated three buses to the Senate. Endit
