An Israeli man who was stabbed three weeks ago near Hebron succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday, a spokesperson for a Jerusalem hospital said.
Genadi Kaufman, a 40-year-old settler from Kiryat Arba, was stabbed near Hebron's Tomb of Patriarchs in the West Bank on December 7 in a stabbing attack. He was evacuated to the Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem in critical condition.
A spokesperson for the hospital issued a statement on Wednesday, announcing Kaufman's death.
"Despite the struggle of the hospital doctors for three and a half weeks, he unfortunately did not survive the very serious wounds from which he had suffered," said the statement.
Twenty-three Israelis and one U.S. citizen have died amid the ongoing wave of violence, which started in October, in lone wolf stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks by Palestinians.
More than 120 Palestinians have died during this period, some in clashes with Israeli security forces amid protests, while others were gunned down by Israeli security forces and vigilante citizens while allegedly carrying out attacks against Israelis.
Israeli leaders blame the Palestinian Authority for incitement to violence, claiming this outbreak had been fueled by religious motivation, following strife surrounding the flashpoint al-Aqsa mosque site in east Jerusalem, holy to both Jews and Muslims.
The Palestinians connect this wave of violence with diminishing hope among Palestinians for a future state, following nearly fifty years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip territories, home to over five million Palestinians, where they wish to establish a Palestinian state, in accordance with the two-state solution.
