2 suspected suicide bombers detained in Ankara

Xinhua, December 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two suicide bombers were arrested Wednesday over suspicion of planning an attack on New Year's Eve in the Kizilay neighborhood of the Turkish capital Ankara, reported a local NTV broadcaster.

The suspects were detained in an IS (Islamic State) cell house wearing suicide bomb vests, stated Ankara's public prosecutor's office.

Turkish police ascertained that the suspects traveled to Syria twice, which raised doubts of their membership in the IS militant group.

The group was also behind the Suruc bombing in July at which 34 people were killed, as well as the attacks against pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party headquarters in Mersin and Adana provinces in Southern Turkey.

More than 100 people were killed in a twin suicide bombing by IS militants in the front of the railway station in Ankara on Oct. 10.

Ankara Prosecutor's Office said the IS was behind the Ankara bombing and an IS cell received orders from its group in Syria and planned attacks in Turkey. Endit
