Singapore appoints Independent Advisory Panel to optimize metro operation

Xinhua, December 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore has appointed an Independent Advisory Panel (IAP) to review the power supply system for all metro lines after a mass breakdown affected over 250,000 commuters due to "weak electrical resistance" in July.

The Land Transport Authority said in a statement on Wednesday that the panel comprises international specialists in power supply systems, including representatives from an overseas operator and equipment design specialists.

Singapore's metro system has frequently broken down in recent years. In December alone, there have been three interruptions of train operations, causing public complaints over the nation's public transportation system.

Chief Executive Officer Chew Men Leong of the Land Transport Authority said the appointment of the panel is part of the continuous effort to improve and upgrade the rail system.

"We are confident that the panel's recommendations will help LTA determine the necessary actions to minimize power-related incidents and enhance overall reliability," he said. Enditem
