Britain condemns Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria

Xinhua, December 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Britain on Tuesday condemned the recent Boko Haram bomb attacks in Nigeria and reiterated British support to the Nigerian government.

More than 70 people have been killed and more than a hundred others injured in sporadic bombings and suicide attacks that struck northern Nigeria since Sunday, according to local police and eyewitnesses.

"Boko Haram attacks on civilians in recent days, some of whom were at prayer in a mosque, show a contemptible disregard for human life," British Minister for Africa James Duddridge said in a statement.

"I utterly condemn them. Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives or were injured," he said.

Britain continues to support the Nigerian authorities as they fight terrorism and to provide aid to those suffering because of Boko Haram's actions, the minister added.

Nigerian police on Monday said scores of people were killed after bomb blasts hit near a mosque in the outskirt of Maiduguri, capital of the country's restive northeast Borno State. Enditem
