A Syrian-based IS leader with direct link to Paris attack mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud was killed in an airstrike, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
Charaffe al Mouadan was killed in an airstrike on Dec. 24, Colonel Steve Warren, spokesman for the U.S. military operation against IS, said on his Twitter account.
Al Mouadan was actively planning attacks against the West, Warren said, vowing that the coalition will hunt IS leaders working to inspire attacks against the U.S. and its allies.
"As long as ISIL external attack planners are operating, the U.S. Military will hunt them and kill them," Warren said, using an alternative acronym for the terrorist group.
The Pentagon said airstrikes by U.S.-led coalition have killed 10 leaders of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) this month.
On Monday, Iraqi security forces declared victory over the IS in Ramadi, the capital of Iraq's western province of Anbar.
The troops "have retook control of Ramadi after liberating its district one by one, and raised the Iraqi flag on the government complex," the Iraqi military said in a statement, but did not give details about whether there was any district left in the hands of IS militants. Endit
