8 Taliban fighters killed in cleanup operations in N. Afghanistan

At least eight Taliban fighters were killed with 14 others injured in cleanup operations over the past two days in Qaisar district of Faryab province, northern Afghanistan, the army said Tuesday.

"Backed by combat aircraft, the ground forces have killed eight Taliban rebels and injured 14 others in Qaisar district since launching the cleanup operations on Monday," said Reza Rezai, an army spokesman in the province.

Mullah Abdul Samad, the shadowy deputy governor of the Taliban outfit for Faryab province, is also among those killed in the operations, he told Xinhua.

Meanwhile two security personnel have been injured, he added. Enditem
