Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday urged the authorities to take quick and stern actions against the perpetrators of Sunday's attack on a police station in Papua.

The attack killed three policemen.

The vice president asked police and military to join hands to act and probe the shooting in Sinak sub district of Puncak district in the eastern part of the country.

The attack also injured 2 policemen and attackers stole seven weapons from the police station, according to national police spokesman Anton Cahrliyan.

"Police and soldiers must immediately take stern actions," Kalla said.

Indonesian national police has sent a team to investigate the deadly attack, Cahrliyan said.

Papua province is home to separatist Free Papua Movement known as OPM which often stages attacks.

The spokesman said that an investigation is needed to find out the motive of the attack and the identities of the attackers. Endit
