Xinhua, December 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 12 Afghans were injured after an earthquake hit Hindukush Mountain ranges along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border overnight, authorities said on Saturday.

The people sustained injuries in the late Friday's quake in Jalalabad city, capital of eastern Nangarhar province and surrounding districts, head of provincial health department Najibullah Kamawal told Xinhua.

"Most of the victims were discharged after receiving medical aid early Saturday and none of the victims received life-threatening wounds," he said.

The quake, which occurred at 11:44 p.m. Friday (1914 GMT), hit most parts of northern and eastern Afghanistan. It also jolted the neighboring Pakistan and India.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake's magnitude was 6.2 and its focal depth was 203 km in Ashkasham area of Afghanistan.

There has been no report of major damages so far while the Afghan National Disaster Management Authority said it is checking with provincial offices to assess possible losses and damages. Endit
