Brazil's Goias take legal action after relegation

Xinhua, December 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brazilian Serie B side Goias have taken legal action demanding the country's football confederation (CBF) investigate alleged breaches to new financial rules.

Goias were relegated to the country's second tier last month when they finished the Serie A season in 19th place out of 20.

According to Goias, some clubs have not adhered to rules that oblige them to pay salaries on time and meet all of their tax obligations

Among the penalties for offending clubs is possible demotion from their current division.

It is estimated that Brazilian clubs owe more than 5bn (about 1.26 bln U.S. dollars) reais in unpaid taxes, salaries and image rights.  Endi
