5.9-magnitude quake jolts eastern Indonesia

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake rocked the eastern part of Indonesia early Friday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

The quake, which jolted Maluku province at 6:10 a.m. Jakarta time Friday (2310 GMT Thursday), was centered 242 km northwest Maluku Tenggara Barat with a depth of 117 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua.

No casualties were reported so far.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on the vulnerable "Pacific Ring of Fire." Endit
