An Israeli court indicted two Arab Israelis for plotting against Israelis and supporting the Islamic State (IS) group, according to court protocols.
The two defendants, Ahmad Talal Saidah, aged 20, and 23-year-old Muhammad Omar Bader Hassan, cousins living in northern Israel, were indicted in the Nazareth District Court over charges of supporting an illegal organization, contacting a foreign agent, attempting to travel to a forbidden country, attempting to purchase an illegal weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to the indictment, provided by the Israeli Court Authority, the two planned to travel to Syria to join the IS and traveled to Turkey in May, but then changed their minds after hearing stories of refugees who fled from the country.
The two returned to Israel but kept up with contacts with an IS agent and allegedly conspired to carry out attacks in northern Israel and bought weapons.
They were arrested in a joint operation last month by the Shin Bet Security Agency and the Israeli police.
Israel outlaws the IS organization last year. Dozens have since been tried for attempting to join its ranks. Endit
