1st LD: Georgian prime minister resigns

Xinhua, December 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday announced his resignation in a statement in Tbilisi.

In the five-minute televised statement, Garibashvili, who held the post since November 2013, spoke briefly the significant reforms during his tenure, but did not give a specific reason behind the decision to step down.

Garibashvili, 33, served as the interior minister from Oct. 25, 2012, to Nov. 20, 2013.

Under the Geogian Constitution, the rulling Georgian Dream coalition will have to nominate a new prime minister within 7 days. The new prime minister will then name cabinet members who need to secure 76 votes among parliament members for approval. Enditem
