Xinhua, December 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least five Nigeriens, among them two soldiers, were killed and several others injured early Wednesday morning during an attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Abadam village in Niger's southeast region of Diffa, security sources said.

The three other victims were residents of Abadam village, the same source that was contacted by Xinhua said, without giving the death toll on the side of assailants who were forced to flee back to neighbouring Nigeria.

These isolated attacks by Boko Haram in Diffa region are occurring despite a declaration by Nigerien authorities of a state of emergency in the region several months ago.

Since February this year, Nigerien regions of Bosso and Diffa, both neighbouring Nigeria, have come under repeated Boko Haram attacks which have left hundreds of civilian and military casualties. During the same period, over 1,000 Boko Haram fighters were killed by Nigerien army. Enditem
