1st Ld-Writethru: Chinese shares slightly up Tuesday

Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.26 percent to close at 3,651.77 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index gained 0.85 percent, or 110.82 points, to end at 13139.13 points.

Total turnover on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses shrank to 874.3 billion yuan (135 billion U.S. dollars), down from 942.8 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 585 to 357 in Shanghai and by 1,024 to 496 in Shenzhen.

Nearly 90 stocks on the two exchanges rose by the daily limit of 10 percent on Tuesday.

Shares related to oil, environmental protection, cement, textiles and agriculture were the major winners.

The sub-index for the oil sector, covering 24 firms, increased 2.58 percent, despite the fact that Brent crude hit an 11-year low overnight in Wall Street.

Sino Geophysical Co.,Ltd. and Lanzhou Haimo Technologies Co.,Ltd. jumped by the daily limit of 10 percent.

The environmental protection sector was also the day's gainer due to heavy smog in North China, with Yonker Environmental Protection Co.,Ltd. rising by the daily limit.

Meanwhile, six companies were listed on Tuesday after a resumption of IPOs. They all gained significantly, including Chunghsin Technology Group Co.,Ltd. and Shenyang Toly Bread Co.,Ltd. up by around 44 percent in the Shanghai market, the limit for IPOs.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, climbed 0.35 percent to close at 2,839.85 points. Enditem
