Xinhua, December 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

About 34 Taliban militants have been killed and 10 others wounded as Afghan security forces carried out cleanup operations in different provinces within the last 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The raids were conducted by Afghan army, police and intelligence agency personnel in Helmand, Logar, Kunar, Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces. The joint forces also seized weapons and defused several landmines," the ministry said in a statement.

The statement that provides daily operational updates also confirmed the loss of six army personnel during clashes across the country over the same period.

The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Security forces have pressed on to clear the militants in restive provinces.

The Taliban responds by bombings and armed attacks.

The Taliban, which has been waging an insurgency since its regime was toppled in late 2001, has yet to make comments. Enditem
