1st LD Writethru: Rocket attack rocks Afghan capital, causing panic

Xinhua, December 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two rockets fired by militants towards Afghan capital of Kabul struck at a diplomatic enclave in central part of the city on Monday night, causing panic among the residents, sources said.

"The rockets landed near Zambaq Square with big bangs. Security forces are verifying the incident. There is fear of loss of life or injuries by the attack which took place at around 09:00 p.m. local time," a security source told Xinhua.

One of the main gates of the country's Presidential Palace, several other government agency buildings and foreign embassies are located at the area.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and details about the incident will be released afterwards, the source added.

No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack, but the Taliban insurgent group routinely claims responsibility for such attacks.

Earlier in the day, the Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing which killed six foreign soldiers and injured three others in Bagram district of eastern Parwan province, some 50 km north of Kabul. Enditem
