Xinhua, December 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The number of asylum applications in Austria so far in 2015 has reached the 85,000 mark, preliminary data from the Ministry of the Interior has revealed Friday.

The figures as reported by the Austria Press Agency also show that about 600,000 refugees have passed through Austria since September.

Ministry spokesperson Karlheinz Grundboeck said between 90,000 and 95,000 asylum applications are expected for the entire year of 2015, remaining in line with expectations.

In comparison 28,000 applications were received in 2014, and 17,500 in 2013.

The preliminary or so-called "raw data" from the ministry has the number of applications for the month of November alone at 13,000, with confirmed results expected next week.

Grundboeck also said at present between 2,000 and 5,000 refugees are passing through Austria daily, primarily in a transitory capacity. Endit
