Jolla secures financing for Sailfish OS

Xinhua, December 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

The mobile development company Jolla said it has secured financing to continue the development of its Sailfish operating system, although the decisions about the future of Jolla tablets have not been taken.

Finnish national broadcaster Yle obtained confirmation Thursday from the Jolla communications director following earlier reports about the financing.

The Sailfish OS has been developed on the basis of the Meego system, known as the last in house operating system by Nokia before the alliance with Microsoft.

Jolla CEO Saarnio said to media that while the future of the Sailfish OS has now been secured, the company will still ponder upon what to do with the production of tablets that are behind scheduled delivery.

Yle reported in November that Jolla had pinned high hopes on the mobile phone market in India for the use of its operating system. Endit
