Syria cancels mutual visa waiver deal with Turkey

Xinhua, December 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Syria announced on Thursday that it had cancelled the mutual visa waiver agreement with Turkey, in retaliation to the same measure undertaken by Ankara, state news agency SANA said.

Syria said the decision came in response to the Turkish government's action last week to unilaterally revoke the mutual visa exemption agreement between the two countries signed on Oct. 13, 2009.

Syria said abolition of the agreement will go into effect after 30 days.

The Syria-Turkey relations have hit the bottom since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, as Turkey blames Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for prolonging the crisis, while Damascus accuses Ankara of facilitating the flow of foreign jihadists into Syria. Endit
