France promises close cooperation with Saudi-led coalition to combat IS

Xinhua, December 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

France promised on Wednesday to work closely with the Saudi-led 34-nation Islamic military coalition which was newly formed to combat Islamist militants in the Arab region, the French foreign ministry said.

"We closely coordinate our actions, in the framework of the international coalition against Daesh, with many Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia," the ministry's spokesman Romain Nadal said.

"We call on all our partners to work together to defeat terrorism," he added at an e-press briefing.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced the creation an Islamic alliance including Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, as well as Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan and several African countries.

Under the coalition, which France described as "a positive sign" in the fight against terrorism, member countries would share information and equipment and provide forces if necessary. Endit
