Xinhua, December 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

League leader Xinjiang handed a 108-100 defeat to traditional powerhouse Guangdong in a well-matched game in the 18th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday.

Andrew Goudelock and Andray Blatche had 62 points together, while veteran point guard Liu Wei collected 16, and Zhou Qi pocketed 12, seven blocks and nine rebounds.

Former NBA player Yi Jianlian had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Guangdong while Zhou Peng and Dong Hanlin combined for 35 points.

The visiting Guangdong had a five-point advantage at the opening stage, but Zhou Qi, a 2.17-meter center, led the home team to a 9-0 run that took the lead.

Andrew Goudelock, a former L.A. Lakers player, sank five three-pointers in the second quarter for Xinjiang, which had a 57-51 cushion as the first half ended.

Xinjiang extended its lead to 22 points in the third quarter thanks to super play by two international players.

Guangdong's five domestic players managed to cut the gap to six points with about one minute left, but failed to grab a vital rebound. Liu Wei then added two points to secure Xinjiang's victory.

"As a compact team, we focused on defense when we fell behind," said Zhou Qi.

Qingdao edged a depleted Bayi team 102-101 on Wednesday. Seven Bayi players were suspended on Wednesday for inciting a chaos in the last round.

Defending champion Beijing tamed Sichuan 119-106 as former NBA star Stephon Marbury finished with 27 points.
