U.S. reiterates commitment to helping Syrian refugees in Lebanon

A senior U.S. official stressed on Monday his country's commitment to offer help to the Syrian refugees "nationwide," National News Agency (NNA) reported.

"The United States has offered to Lebanon nearly one billion U.S. dollars during past four years in helping Syrian refugees, and this support will continue," said Simon Henshaw, visiting U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.

"We will cooperate with Lebanon to find a solution, and create a positive climate towards the Syrian refugees," he added.

"The U.S. government will continue supporting Lebanon as much as possible," he said.

Henshaw also stressed that "our commitment is strong and we have vowed to offer help to refugees nationwide."

According to the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees, Lebanon hosts more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees who are living in very harsh conditions, particularly since the International Aid organizations cut their aid to them. Endit
