Xinhua, December 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

A primary school, a kindergarten and a vocational education center opened this week in Sansha, China's southernmost island city administered by Hainan Province.

The institutions, including classrooms, an archives building and even an underwater archaeology center took 18 months to build. The schools have a floor area of 4,650 square meters and cost over 36 million yuan (5.56 mln U.S. dollars). The city has plans to introduce college and continuing education.

Six teachers from Qiongtai Teachers College in the provincial capital Haikou are now giving lessons on the island.

Sansha, on Yongxing, one of the Xisha islands, was officially established in 2012 to administer the Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha island groups and their surrounding waters in the South China Sea. Endi
