2 IS suspects arrested in Morocco

Xinhua, December 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Moroccan police arrested two people who are suspected supporters of the Islamic state (IS) group, the interior ministry announced in a statement Thursday.

According to the ministry, investigations revealed that these two "dangerous" men had recently shot a propaganda video threatening to carry out terrorist operations against specific targets in Morocco.

The two suspects, who were arrested near the southern city of Agadir, and the central city of Fes, will be referred to justice after completion of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor office, the ministry noted.

On Tuesday, Morocco arrested two suspects with links to the Islamic State (IS) in the eastern city of Berkane and the suburb of the western city of Marrakesh.

Moroccan police have maintained high alert on potential terrorist attacks since Paris attacks.

According to the Moroccan government, police have busted some 140 terrorist cells since 2002 and successfully foiled hundreds of terrorist plans. More than 2,200 individuals have been arrested. Enditem
