The 48 Group Club 2015 Annual Award Reception was held on Wednesday night to honor outstanding personal contributions made to advance China-Britain ties.
Icebreaker Awards of this year went to six awardees, including Chairman of Great Britain-China Centre Sir Martin Davidson, Minister of State at the Home Office Lord Michael Bates, Former Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sir Vincent Cable, Chairman of WS Atkins plc Allan Cook, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Nottingham Professor Chris Rudd and Managing Director of PetroChina International (London) Bingjun Si.
Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming said the China-Britain relationship is standing at a new starting point, describing the Chinese president's state visit to Britain this year as an unprecedented success.
"We will create a 'Golden Era' for the enduring, open and win-win relationship between China and the UK. This upgraded China-UK ties, while mapping out the way forward, serves as a guideline for the 48 Group Club and indeed for all those devoted to China-UK friendship and cooperation," the ambassador stressed.
"Today, the 'thick ice' that once blocked China-UK exchanges has long gone for good. But the 'icebreaking' spirit initiated by the 48 Group 60 years ago is certainly not outdated. To achieve this, we must carry forward the 'icebreaking' spirit and renew it with what truly features within the 'Golden Era'," he said.
The 48 Group Club is an independent business network committed to promoting positive relations between Britain and China. Endit
