Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has accepted the resignation of the country's intelligence service chief, an official said on Thursday.

"President Ghani accepted resignation of Rahmatullah Nabil,"Sayed Zafar Hashemi, deputy presidential spokesman, said on his twitter account.

The Afghan president will hold a special meeting later Thursday to pick a caretaker from the leadership of the National Directorate for Security (NDS) to replace Nabil, Hashemi added.
