Singapore, Indonesia enhance cooperation on maritime training

Xinhua, December 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore and Indonesia have extended a memorandum of understanding (MoU) concerning cooperation on human resources development of government officers in maritime field.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

MPA signed the MoU with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation (DGST), Indonesia's transport ministry in conjunction with the 9th Meeting of the DGST-MPA Training MoU.

The MoU extension this year marked ten years of strong bilateral cooperation between MPA and DGST on maritime training, said MPA.

Chief Executive of MPA Andrew Tan noted that a greater focus will be placed on maritime leadership development for senior officials in DGST and MPA with the extension of the MoU.

"More opportunities for exchanges between DGST and MPA officers will also be offered to further enhance the longstanding bilateral maritime cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia." said Tan.

In 2005, MPA and DGST signed the MoU to raise standards of technical and administrative professionalism of personnel from the two organizations.

More than 50 programs and workshops have been organized for more than 800 officials over the last ten years. Enditem
