UN meeting on ending volence against women to kick off in Turkey

A UN meeting on ending violence against women will kick off in Turkey on Wednesday, Farhan Haq, the deputy UN spokesman, told reporters here Tuesday.

"Starting tomorrow, some 150 high-level representatives from more than 40 countries, as well as from the Council of Europe, UN agencies, academia and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) will start a two-day meeting on Ending Violence against Women: Building on Progress to Accelerate Change in Turkey," Haq said at a daily news briefing here.

The meeting is organized by UN Women and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), he said.

This week also marks the end of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign on Dec. 10, which is also Human Rights Day. Enditem
