2 more arrests in Spain in anti-extremist operation

Spanish security forces on Tuesday made two further arrests of people thought to be linked to DAESH (Islamic State), the Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed.
The arrests of a Moroccan man and a woman by Spanish national police took place in the Canary Islands and in the Catalan region in the north-east of Spain in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The operation is still open and the possibility of further detentions in the coming hours has not been ruled out.
The two people arrested are accused of swearing loyalty to DAESH and also making "direct" threats against both Spain and France, as well as forming part of a network dedicated to indoctrinating and recruiting future fighters for the jihad.
The arrests take the total number of people detained for terrorist offenses in Spain to five for the month of December.
Four days ago, the Spanish Interior Ministry launched its campaign #StopRadicalism (StopRadicalismos), which allows citizens to alert security forces of people who may have become radicalized in total anonymity by internet, phone or text message.
The first three days of the campaign have led to a "multitude" of reports being made of which Interior Minister, Jorge Fernandez Diaz, said 29 had been filtered out as being "especially sensitive," and worthy of further investigation. Endit
