11 migrants drown off Moroccan coast

Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Moroccan Marine services discovered the bodies of 11 sub-Saharan illegal migrants Monday after their boat sank off the shores of the Moroccan Atlantic Ocean, according to local authorities Tuesday.

The shipwreck, believed to be caused by bad weather, is located approximately 140 km south of the city of Boujdour and includes a woman among its 11 victims, added the source.

Marine services expanded their search and rescue operations to find any remaining missing individuals.

An investigation is underway under the supervision of local authorities as well as the public prosecutor's office concerning the incident, in order to identify the circumstances surrounding the organized illegal smuggling operation. Endit
