Eurozone GDP up 0.3 percent in third quarter

The Eurozone economy grew by 0.3 percent in the third quarter of the year, according to second estimates published Tuesday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU).

In the 28-member-state bloc EU, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.4 percent during the third quarter of 2015.

In the same quarter last year, the seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 1.6 percent in the Eurozone and by 1.9 percent in the EU.

For comparison, during the third quarter of 2015, GDP in the United States increased by 0.5 percent compared with the previous quarter. Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, United States GDP grew by 2.2 percent.

Among EU member states for which data are available for the third quarter of 2015, Romania, Croatia, Malta, Latvia, Poland and Slovakia recorded the highest growth. Decreases were registered in Greece, Estonia and Finland as well as Denmark.

As Europe's largest economy, Germany's GDP grew by just 0.3 percent in the July-September quarter. Meanwhile, the Greek GDP contracted by 0.9 percent, worse than first estimated 0.5 percent, said the Eurostat. Endit
