Indonesia speeds up Asian Games preparation

Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indonesian government is accelerating preparation for the ASIAN Games in 2018, Sport Minister Imam Nahrowi said here on Tuesday.

Minister Nahrowi told Xinhua, "So far, the preparation has been completed by more than 60 percent."

The works are now only on the preparation of guesthouses for athletes and some venues requested by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), he said.

To monitor the progress of the works, the minister said that a monitoring post will be set up at the main stadium in Jakarta.

Indonesia has only four years as compared to the usual six years for the preparation as the country was awarded the games in September 2014 following the withdrawal of original host Vietnam due to economic problem.

Indonesia's capital of Jakarta will host most of the regional sport event with help of some other small cities.

Indonesia last held the Asian Games in 1962 in Jakarta.  Endi
