Pumas, Tigres to play Mexico's first division football final

Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The final of Mexico's first division 2015 Apertura Tournament will be played between the UNAM Pumas and UANL Tigres next Thursday and Sunday.

The Pumas, led by coach Guillermo Vazquez, will face the Tigres, led by Brazilian coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferreti, for what is one of the greatest prizes in Mexican football.

The Pumas, who defeated America in the semifinals, will be on the prowl for their eighth title. On the other hand, Tigres, after seeing off Toluca in the semifinals, will be hunting for their fourth title.

This will be the second time that the Pumas and Tigres face each other in the finals. The first time was in the 1977-1978 season, with Tigres emerging the winners.

While Tigres and Pumas are not the bitterest of rivals in Mexico, the first leg at the Tigres' home in Monterrey on Thursday will certainly be hotly disputed. The second leg will be contested on Sunday at the Pumas' home in the urban jungle of Mexico City.  Endi
