Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, boxer Julio Cesar La Cruz and gymnast Manrique Larduet were selected here Monday as the three best Cuban athletes for 2015, the National Sports Institute (INDER) said.

Silva won a world title in Beijing and became the Pan-American queen in Toronto. She also improved her personal mark last August to 4.91 meters.

La Cruz was crowned the Pan American champion in Toronto, and topped the podium in the World Cup in Doha, Qatar. He was selected by the AIBA as the best amateur boxer of the year.

Larduet claimed a silver medal in the all-around and a bronze on the horizontal bar at the World Cup of Glasgow, UK, which is considered by the sports authorities as the best performance of a Cuban gymnast in world stage.

The list of the most outstanding Cuban athletes in 2015 also include wrestlers Mijail Lopez and Ismael Borrero, discus thrower Denia Caballero, triple jumper Pedro Pablo Pichardo, boxers Arlen Lopez and Lazaro Alvarez, rower Angel Fournier, canoeist Yusmary Mengana, judoka Idalis Ortiz and taekwondo player Rafael Alba.  Endi
