Middle East, Europe face challenges of terrorism, refugees: Jordanian King

King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday said that Europe and the Middle East face similar challenges on the issues of terrorism and refugees, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

At a meeting with visiting German President Joachim Gauck, the Jordanian leader said both Europe and the Middle East face the threat of terrorism and the influx of rising refugees.

The King also stressed the need for exchanging ideas and increasing cooperation in these regards between the two countries.

For his part, the German president expressed his appreciation for Jordan's role in the Middle East and for extending support to Syrian refugees.

Jordan has burdened a large number of Syrian refugees, Gauck said, adding that Germany and some other European countries are also ready to host Syrian refugees.

According to official figures, Jordan has hosted than 1.5 million Syrian refugees. Endit
