Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Taliban militants attacked a police station in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Monday evening, triggering a heavy gunfight, a police source said.

"The attack took place at around 5:50 p.m. when armed militants engaged with police personnel after arriving by a car near the Breshna Kot police station in ninth police district of provincial capital Kandahar city," the source told Xinhua anonymously.

Units of special operation force also arrived at the scene and the security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures, he said.

No casualty reports were immediately available as the clash is going on at the moment, the source added.
