Over 300,000 migrants cross border into Macedonia since June 2015

Xinhua, December 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Macedonia has issued a total of 313,656 registration documents to refugees since June 2015, Macedonian ministry of interior declared on Monday.

Among them 183,499 are Syrians, 75,505 Afghans, 33,211 Iraqis, it said.

The ministry said 4,501 certificates were issued for intended asylum requests in the past 24 hours.

Among them, 1,966 were men, 889 were women and 1,646 were children.

According to the interior ministry, the majority of them have arrived from Syria (2,121), Iraq (1,642), and Afghanistan (738).

Deteriorating conditions in Syria and neighboring countries are driving thousands of Syrians to risk everything to seek asylum in Europe, according to UNHCR spokeswoman Melissa Fleming. Endit
