Warriors edge out Raptors to go 21-0

Xinhua, December 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Golden State Warriors extended their winning record to 21 straight wins to begin a season in Saturday evening's 112-109 victory over the Toronto Raptors in NBA action.

Dating back to last season, the Warriors have reeled off 25 consecutive regular season wins. In NBA history, only the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers and 2012-13 Miami Heat have more consecutive victories with 33 and 27, respectively.

Reigning MVP Stephen Curry had a game-high 44 points, including nine three-pointers, to lead the team to victory.

"The 21-game winning streak is surreal because it doesn't sound right when you say it out loud," said Curry following the game in front of a large group of reporters. "We're out there very confident and comfortable, and we expect to win every night."

Coming off a 40-point effort against Charlotte in the previous game, Curry has now scored 40-plus points in consecutive games for the first time in his career.

In total, Curry has eclipsed 40 points on seven different occurrences this season, surpassing the six that he had all of last season. He has three other 40-plus performances in his career, two in the 2012-13 season and one in his rookie campaign of 2009-10.

Curry credited the approach he and his teammates took in the offseason to his team's hot start.

"We don't want to be complacent. So the mentality we had over the summer was to enjoy the accomplishments and come back even better, stronger, and a more efficient team," said Curry, who is leading the league with 32.6 points per game.

Despite the positive results, Curry and his teammates remain hungry, looking at each game one at a time.

"The best thing is that every guy in the locker room genuinely isolate every game," said Curry. "We've been able to separate each game individually and figure out different ways of winning. It's been fun."  Endi
