Arsenal defeats Sunderland 3-1 in English Premier League

Xinhua, December 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Arsenal got a 3-1 home win against Sunderland on Saturday, ending it's three-game winless run in the English Premier League.

French striker Olivier Giroud made amends for a first-half own goal by scoring in the second half to help Arsenal win the match, which moves the team up to second place in the league standings.

Joel Campbell put the Gunners in the lead in the 33rd minute and Giroud restored their lead mid-way through the second half after he had gifted the visitors an equaliser on the stroke of half-time. Aaron Ramsey added the third to secure the victory.

Arsenal is two points behind surprise leader Leicester, while Sunderland is two points above the relegation zone.

It was a boost before Arsenal's must-win Champions League trip to Olympiakos next week, where Arsene Wenger's side must score by two clear goals to reach the knockout stage.  Endi
