The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council convened here Thursday for an annual meeting to discuss terrorism, migration and Ukraine, officials said.
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said Serbia led the OSCE through tough times, under the emerging threat of terrorism and escalating migrant crisis and urged all countries to find joint answers to resolve these important issues.
"Terrorism threat is universal and it concerns all of us, and that is why the answer needs to be joint and universal," he told participants.
The meeting was opened by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, also the chairperson-in-office of the OSCE, with 40 ministers including U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Over the next two days, officials will review and assess the OSCE's activities during the past year and offer their viewpoints on security matters.
Several plenary meetings and numerous bilateral meetings will take place, of which the most awaited is the meeting between Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Cavusoglu in light of the recent shooting down of a Russian fighter jet by Turkish forces.
Serbia chaired over OSCE in a year when the organization marked 40 years' anniversary since the adoption of the Helsinki Final Act which laid the foundations for its existence.
From January 2016, Germany will take over the lead with its Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier as the chairperson-in-office. Endit
