Algeria on Wednesday said supporting the Malian economy is the corner stone for the success of the ongoing process of peace and reconciliation in this Western African nation.

"Algeria is committed in continuing supporting all initiatives aiming at helping to regain peace in Mali and in all the Sahel region," Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said on the African Union conference on the Sahel development initiatives and the prospects for the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali.

The Algerian top diplomat said the Sahel region is plagued by scourges of terrorism, organized crime, poverty and climate change threat.

Lamamra said Algeria expects its regional partners to continue supporting Malian warrant parties to ultimately put an end to the three-year crisis. Endit
