1st LD Writethru: Landslide kills 2, causes damages in Indonesia

Heavy downpours in North Sumatra of Indonesia killed two people and damaged houses and bridges on Wednesday, official said here.

The floods and landslides took place on Tuesday to Wednesday at several sub-districts of North Sumatra, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national management agency told Xinhua by phone.

As many as 19 houses were seriously damaged, 10 others got minor damaged, and several bridges and roads were also damaged, he said.

Dozens of villagers fled homes and took shelters at safer ground, Sutopo said.

As the peak of the wet season in January, the potential of flood and landslide is still on high, he said. Endit
